BCS-SCF Candidates

Whether you are currently pursuing or considering certification as a Board Certified Specialist in Stuttering, Cluttering, and Fluency Disorders, this website is designed to guide you through the process. For nearly twenty years, speech-language pathologists and members of the stuttering community have contributed their time and expertise to improve services and advance the field. In 2014, the Board Recognized Specialist pathway transitioned into a formal certification program to ensure a higher, more consistent standard of care.

Fluency disorders are complex, and while many speech-language pathologists hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC), their training and experience in this specialty can vary. BCS-SCF certification represents advanced knowledge and clinical expertise, allowing specialists to provide the highest level of care for individuals with stuttering, cluttering, and other fluency disorders.

To become certified, applicants must meet established requirements, including significant clinical experience across age groups and continuing education focused on fluency disorders. After application approval, candidates complete a comprehensive portfolio of case studies for Board review. Certification is maintained through ongoing clinical work and continued education.

If you are currently in the certification process, please review the Important Information section for additional details. If you have questions, the American Board of Stuttering, Cluttering, and Fluency Disorders is available to assist—please contact [email protected].
